Final approval of the California workers’ compensation MTUS drug formulary

by Heidi Snow | Dec 13, 2017

The California Office of Administrative Law has approved the final MTUS Drug Formulary regulations submitted by the Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) fully adopting a workers’ compensation drug formulary. The formulary and related rules will go into effect January 1, 2018.

The final regulations and related documentation, including the drug list, can be found here: http://www.dir.ca.gov/dwc/DWCPropRegs/MTUS-Formulary/MTUS-Formulary.htm.

Additionally, the DWC will be hosting two informational webinars on December 13 and 14 to focus on the formulary’s regulatory framework, and explain the rules that apply to the drug list designations and how the formulary relates to recent updates of their treatment guidelines. Also included will be a demonstration of the online access to the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) materials and information on how system participants can obtain a license. A recording will be posted online for later viewing.

DWC’s recent notice on approval, including information on how to register for their upcoming webinars, can be found here: http://www.dir.ca.gov/DIRNews/2017/2017-115.pdf.

Optum Workers’ Compensation and Auto No-fault produced a recorded webinar which explains the new drug formulary from both a regulatory perspective and a pharmacy claims processing perspective. We urge our clients to take the opportunity to view our webinar and the DWC webinars to help gain a better understanding of the coming drug formulary requirements. Our webinar can be found here: http://helioscomp.com/cl/california-mtus.
