Auto No-Fault ancillary benefit management

Often the road to recovery requires more than medication therapy; therefore, making certain the injured person receives the right ancillary products and services can be every bit as important to advancing recovery and assuring quality care as the right prescription.

Our Auto No-Fault ancillary benefit management program offers a broad, nationwide network of quality service providers to coordinate ancillary needs ranging from medical equipment and supplies to language services, transportation, catastrophic care coordination, and more. Each provider is carefully selected based on their service records, credentials, and expertise. This attention to detail makes certain that high quality, professional services are cost-effective and readily available, no matter the complexity or location. View a list of our services below for additional information.

Catastrophic care coordination

Our specialized catastrophic care team provides expert guidance and quality care coordination for patients suffering from a severe injury, such as burns, paraplegia, quadriplegia, traumatic brain injuries (TBI), and multiple trauma injuries. Claim professionals and discharge planners will find Optum to be a valuable partner in the facilitation of a well-managed, anticipatory plan that prioritizes the restoration of physical abilities and mental wellness.

Diagnostic services

Diagnostic Services are efficiently scheduled within our vast network of highly-trained providers. Optum also maximizes discounts for these services, whether the patient needs an MRI, aging MRI, CT, EMG, X-Ray, Ultrasound, or another diagnostic need.

Home health care

Our home health care services include specialty-nursing, aides, and therapists committed to rapid response for service placement and treatment. The result is reduced costs for you and improved outcomes for injured workers. Our home health care services feature a network of nearly 2,500 fully credentialed providers and includes complete reporting and analysis of all home healthcare spend.

We designed our home health care program to decrease overall recovery time and cost of therapy. Convenient, comfortable, in-home treatment options include infusion therapy for pain management and antibiotic administration. Care is administered by:

  • Registered Nurses (RNs)
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)
  • Physical therapists
  • Occupational therapists
  • Certified home health aides
  • Social workers

These professionals not only provide valuable oversight of medication therapy and other aspects of care, but can help mitigate the risk of complications, and ensure maximum efficacy of the care management plan.

In-patient negotiations

In-patient services often add tens of thousands of dollars per month to an extended period of treatment. Our up-front negotiation service addresses these extraordinary costs in advance, resulting in greater savings than traditional audits. We leverage supply and cost databases, patent-pending pricing algorithms, and a customized technology platform to achieve an average savings of more than 50% on long-term care, inpatient rehabilitation, transplants, surgical procedures, and post-acute care extended stays.

Language services

Lack of understanding and miscommunication can delay healing and cause frustration throughout the claim life cycle. Optum eliminates language barriers by providing the translation services necessary for accurate communication. Over 200 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL), are available for in-person assistance, phone conferencing, and document translation.

Medical equipment and supplies

We make it easy for injured workers to receive medical equipment and supplies, as well as the fittings, deliveries, set-up, and training needed for effective therapeutic care. Our cost-effective, well-monitored program emphasizes exceptional customer service, efficacy, and cost-containment.

Here’s a small sample of the kinds of equipment, supplies, and services we offer:

  • Canes and crutches
  • Hearing aids
  • Orthotics and prosthetics
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • TENS and electro-medical devices
  • Wheelchair and scooter repair

Physical medicine

The road to recovery often requires more than a prescription; that’s why we also offer a discounted network on physical therapy, occupational therapy, and chiropractic services. We have created state-of-the-art benchmarking protocols that monitor treatment patterns, utilization, levels of function, and appropriateness of care to help control costs for these services. Our national network of out-patient physical therapy providers offers you increased savings and better utilization management, while advancing the injured person's functional restoration.

Transportation services

It can be difficult to promote positive clinical outcomes if the patient lacks the means to travel to appointments. Optum provides non-emergency transportation on any day and at any hour. Wheelchair vans, sedans, medical transports, and air transports are available to respond to all levels of mobility restrictions or impairments. This facilitates on-time medical visit attendance, regardless of special needs, distance of travel, or unique circumstances.
