Magazine recognizes Helios for its work to curb prescription drug misuse
Helios, a workers’ compensation specialty services company with offices in Westerville, has received the inaugural Pathway to Population Health Award from Columbus CEO magazine for its leadership in mitigating prescription opioid misuse among injured workers. Helios was recognized for making a positive impact on opioid utilization in the care of injured workers through its many multifaceted, innovative programs.

“It’s an honor to receive recognition for our mission of ensuring the injured worker receives the right medication at the right time,” said Tron Emptage, RPh, chief clinical officer for Helios. “We are always actively trying to promote patient safety, and appropriate use of all medications, not just opioids, through our various programs. Getting employees back to work and functioning at their highest, pre-injury level is our top priority.”

As a result of its comprehensive efforts, Helios has made a significant impact on claim outcomes, thus helping to reduce the national opioid misuse and abuse footprint. Outcomes include:

  • A dramatic decrease in morphine equivalent dose (MED)
  • A downward shift in opioid utilization over the last three years, which also resulted in lower prescription cost per claim
  • Reduction in the claim duration of pharmacy use
Helios is one of six 2015 HealthCare Achievement award winners, and is featured in the March 2015 edition of the magazine.
